Danish Magazine Cover Ridiculed Over Using Photo Of Ultra-Thin Cover Model

A Danish magazine has been forced to apologise after using a 'skeleton'-like model in its latest issue on the front page of its magazine. The publisher of Danish magazine, Cover, Malene Malling called it a 'sad day' after online backlash and anger over the decision to feature Lululeika in a fashion feature admitting that “I’ve made magazines for more than ten years and this time unfortunately I made a huge mistake, which I would like to apologise for,” adding that the photo “should not have been published”.

The use of the photograph had prompted a huge social media backlash and even the Danish politicians weighed in on the issue. Danish Minister Benny Englebrecht took to Twitter to voice his disapproval. “I seriously thought that the fashion industry had understood that anorexia is a problem that should be taken seriously.”

Although the magazine apologised, the industry continues to face criticism over the ethics of the unhealthy feature of body image and the outcry comes at a time when there is a growing concern over the use of thin models in fashion, which countries are starting to legislate on.
