Rihanna’s $9,000 Dolce & Gabbana Headphones Seen Wearing Are Completely Sold Out - Showing The Power Of Celebrity Endorsements
It goes without saying that celebrities have a big influence, many companies recognise the reputation of a celebrity as an encouragement to buy products or use services, and fully understand the value of using celebrities to create awareness and public media attention. And with that in mind, a few days ago the singer Rihanna tweeted a picture in which she is allegedly listening to her much anticipated eighth studio album. In the photo she is wearing a pair of very expensive Dolce & Gabbana headphones. The headphones were a hit last year when they were unveiled during the fashion house's autumn/winter 2015 show during Milan Fashion Week. After their unveiling, the fashion house were accused of stealing Columbian artists Adriana Duque's designs for their $9K headphones.
The headphones cost $9,000, perhaps because they are embellished with Swarovski crystals and metallic rings. Price aside, the headphones sold out within less than 24 hours after Rihanna’s tweet, and garnered over 160,000 retweets.
Even though (as far as we are aware) the post wasn’t explicitly a celebrity endorsement or an ad, it still highlights the power of celebrities in fashion promotion to sell luxury products for a brand.
