Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal to join the Legal Department based at the Head Office in London. This role reports directly into the General Counsel and Company Secretary:

Key Responsibilities and Duties


Intellectual Property:

  • IP Portfolio / Notarisation of documents: liaising with notaries to arrange for all relevant documents to be notarised and apostilled where relevant

  • Trademarks: Helping to arrange for the registration of new trademarks and the re-registration of out-dated trademarks globally. Involvement in opposition proceedings by and against Jimmy Choo

  • Designs: Arranging for the registration of designs, assignment of copyright and managing unregistered designs where necessary

  • Design Patents: Keeping track of all design patents registered and ensuring that these are logged and tracked

  • Requesting and collating information from other departments to provide evidence of use for trademarks

Anti-counterfeiting work:

  • Trading standards, customs and police: Liaising with various trading standards and customs following the seizure of possible counterfeit Jimmy Choo products. Assessing whether the products seized are counterfeit and then preparing the relevant documentation, including Section 9 statements; Affidavits and opinions based on a comparison between the counterfeit item(s) and the genuine product(s)

  • Working alongside Brand Protection Partners who monitor marketplaces and social media to identify possible counterfeits of Jimmy Choo products, requesting that all such infringing items should be removed and following-up

  • Reviewing reports from our brand protection partners and completing action points where necessary

  • Attending law enforcement briefings as and when required


General contract:

  • Preparing initial drafts of agreements; liaising with the relevant third parties to implement any comments that they may wish to make and updating the contract accordingly; and arranging for the contracts to be signed, countersigned and filed

  • Contracts include marketing/PR agreements, licence agreements, distribution agreements, confidentiality agreements and consultancy agreements


Company secretarial:

  • Drafting of board minutes and arranging for signature of such documents

  • Assisting the General Counsel with the financial calendar, and associated corporate governance

  • Assisting to ensure internal corporate governance and practice is compliant with current legislation

Property:

  • Maintaining and updating the property leases and concessions log and liaising with our translation office where necessary

  • Reviewing and negotiating lease and concession agreements as appropriate and finalising documents for signature


Legal research:

  • Conducting relevant legal research as requested


Litigation:

  • Assisting in the preparation and collection of all various documentation and evidence that might be required for possible proceedings involving Jimmy Choo

Policy and procedures:

  • Helping to research, draft and prepare company policy and procedure documents

  • Updating the corporate governance rules


Filing and general admin:

  • Maintaining the relevant systems in place, including the legal safe, archiving, legal databases (e.g. lease and consultancy) and the General Counsel’s office

  • Scanning and photocopying of various legal documents

  • Keeping group up to date with contracts/minutes

  • Ensuring contract approval forms have been appropriately prepared for sign off


PA duties:

  • Calendar management, organising travel arrangements, organising meetings, expenses, liaising with other departments to obtain signatures/feedback


Skills, Experiences and Duties

  • Must have a UK Law Degree

  • Ideally with LPC qualification

  • Ideally experience from a similar role, within the industry

  • Experience of a commercial environment

  • Highly competent user of MS Office packages, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Able to incorporate regular mundane tasks into day to day workload

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, oral and written

  • Confident team player

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, being flexible in approach to meet the requirements of the business
